Local Christmas Draw raises over £2,000 for charity
CHRISTMAS came early for twelve lucky people, as one of the biggest regional hearing care companies held its annual charity Christmas Prize Draw. The Hearing Care Centre,
which has a centre locally at Beccles & District Hospital, organised the draw in support of deafness charity, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, giving entrants the chance to win a prize bundle of over £1,000 – the top prizes being a luxury stay at The Swan in Southwold and a meal for two at Gordon Ramsay’s Maze restaurant in Mayfair. Through face-to-face ticket
sales and donations on the company’s Just Giving page, The Hearing Care Centre managed to raise £2,083.
Hearing Dogs for Deaf
People delivers expert training for Hearing Dogs which provides invaluable emotional support to their deaf recipient. New found owners gain confidence, independence and companionship. The Christmas Prize Draw
received generous support from local businesses – Coes, Fred Olsen, Dulux, Salthouse Harbour Hotel, Theatre Royal Norwich and Archant, as well as from hearing solution providers Phonak, Sivantos, Oticon and GN Hearing. Karen Finch, Managing
Director and founder of The Hearing Care Centre, expressed: “This prize draw just goes to show the power of our community, with support
not only from the general public but also from local businesses, we can all be proud of this fantastic total, which will make a huge difference to Hearing Dogs’ work”. This year to celebrate the
company’s 20th anniversary, The Hearing Care Centre pledged to raise £20,000 for the charity and this was one of the last of many events held this year to meet this ambitious target. Final totals are currently being calculated but such wonderful support from the local community means this target is definitely within sight. To find out about the winners
of the draw and the prize list, visit www.hearingcarecentre.

Beccles Ladies Probus
TWENTY members of Beccles Ladies Probus had a most enjoyable festive lunch at the Waveney House Hotel on December 18th. Festive fare at the Waveney is always good and we all agreed that it was one of their best. Entertainment was provided by a committee member -
Margaret Cawdron. and our president Jeannie Nicholson - much to the amusement of the members. Rita Kidd played the piano with gusto for carol singing which ended a most enjoyable time together.

Beccles U3A
THE December meeting took the form of a members- only party with a delicious Christmas-themed buffet plus plenty of entertainment. Mu Garbutt put together
an imaginative stage play based on the Frederick escape which is the subject of ‘The Ship That Never Was’, Australia's longest-running play performed every evening by the Round Earth Theatre Company in Strahan, Tasmania. It is based on the true story
of British convicts who were transported to Australia and later hijacked a boat to escape. This story was played out by various members of the U3A in ‘elaborate’ costumes. The story was punctuated with rousing singing from the
