INSTITUTE OF REFRACTORIES ENGINEERS TRAINING DAY 2018

INTRODUCTION TO REFRACTORIES THURSDAY 15TH NOVEMBER

VENUE: TANKERSLEY MANOR, CHURCH LANE, TANKERSLEY, BARNSLEY, SOUTH YORKSHIRE S75 3DQ

The training day will be on 15th November, in Barnsley UK. The Institute of Refractories Engineers has run a training day since 2008, in line with the Institute aims which include the promotion of education and training in refractories. Our training days have always received positive feedback with many companies sending people on the courses each year.

This course provides a one-day introduction to refractories for people with little or no

familiarity with the materials, this will include people recently starting work in the industry or those whose work does not entail technical knowledge of refractories but for whom a knowledge of refractory materials would be an advantage. The course does not assume any prior knowledge of refractory materials.

The course comprises a series of lectures and hands-on sessions working in small groups. The course will be delivered by experts in the various aspects of refractories. We have run this

course before in 2008 and in 2009 and have updated the content. Feedback from those courses was highly positive.

Topics covered include:

• WHAT ARE REFRACTORIES AND WHERE ARE THEY USED • RAW MATERIAL TYPES AND PROPERTIES • SIZE GRADING, BATCHING AND MIXING • MONOLITHIC REFRACTORIES • SHAPED REFRACTORIES • MATERIAL PROPERTIES AND APPLICATIONS

We provide those attending with a certificate of attendance and a copy of the presentations. September 2018 Issue ENGINEER THE REFRACTORIES 7
