MATCH Report. London 3 Eastern Counties League, Woodbridge Warriors 17 v Fakenham RFC 27, Saturday 8th December. Entertaining and frustrating
in equal measure, both sides had moments of domination but squandered them with penalties or poor handling. Fakenham took an early lead with a penalty from Lloyd Marshall and then a try from Ashley Stewart after a Joseph Bane-Young charge which demonstrated why they beat Holt last week. Woodbridge fought back through flanker Aldis Salavejs back from injury and another from Ed
Banthorp who stormed over like a battering ram. Just before the break boisterous flanker, Lyam Thorpe put Fakenham back ahead 10-15. With the tension building
and Woodbridge looking promising for an equaliser their defence became stretched and two runaway tries from wingers Tom Bane-Young and then Tom Howick got the bonus point and widened the odds against a Warriors comeback. Warrior centre Tom Stokes battled over and gave home supporters something to shout about but with insufficient time to challenge Fakenham’s hard- fought win.
mental and physical health is extremely important and they take it very seriously. They believe that keeping active and healthy will help maintain a clear and positive mind set during the student’s school years. Ryan successfully engaged
the pupils through an honest questioning and answering session which was based upon the video footage of his qualification to the Paralympic 50 metre free style final in Rio 2016. He spoke of the nerves, the expectation and how he dealt with his challenges in front of 18,000 spectators. Local boy Ryan has mild cerebral palsy which restricts his strength in one leg. However, he told the students that he does not let this affect him or his passion towards swimming and keeping fit. He also said how he considered giving up following illness but love of the sport and being part of a team kept him going; this resilience mindset is part of his

message to our students. “Be the best you can be and never give up.” Ryan and Mrs Mayhew,
Head of Physical Education, then took the students out onto their running field where all participants became determined to better their personal times and show off their abilities. Ryan felt humble as students took an interest in his life and discussed with him whether they had a dream they’d also like to pursue. Students were then asked
to raise money for their 10 minute run; unexpectedly they raised a ground breaking total of £2421.40! Half of these funds will go to the Alde Valley PE department and the other half will be sent to Inspired Sports. Inspired Sports was founded to develop children’s
skills and inspire them to have confidence in themselves no matter what their abilities. They tour the UK offering professional coaching and mentoring. Students commented; “Ryan
being here really did make a difference to the effort I put in
during running. I feel inspired by him,” “I loved the race,” “I would definitely like to do it again,” “It was great to hear Ryan’s story,” “It was really great to meet a Paralympian.” Ryan said; “These students
are a real credit to the school. They were extremely well
behaved.” Mrs Mayhew, Head of Physical Education said; “It was our pleasure and delight to have had Ryan Crouch visit us and we believe it has made a dramatic difference in the pupils’ outlook towards their futures.”

Music in the Library
ONE of the pleasantest ways of spending a lunch hour in Woodbridge is to pop along to the Library for one of its Lunchtime Concerts. These have been running for nearly four years and take place on a Tuesday at 12.45pm. The next concert in this series
will be given by Anthony Awad. Anthony is a pianist, guitarist and singer with a liking for improvisation. He promises an intriguing mix of jazz, Queen and Elvis Presley! The concert is on Tuesday 22nd January in the Library's Meeting Room from 12.45pm - 1.30pm. There is no charge to attend but donations for the work of the Friends of Woodbridge Library are welcome. Several excellent and enjoyable concerts at the Library have been given by students of Woodbridge School. They will be giving a full evening concert in the Library on Friday 1st February at 7.30pm under the baton of the school's Head of Music, Chris Milton. Tickets for this event are £8 (students £4) and include an interval drink. They are available from the Library (telephone 01394 330855).
