Dr Dan Poulter MP

AS I sit to write this month’s column, it seems hard to believe that Christmas and New Year are almost upon us – all too soon the daily routine of work and school journeys will return and as we look ahead to the New Year, I would like to start in wishing all of you a very happy Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year. After enjoying some much

needed time at home in Suffolk, I am looking forward to the return of Parliament. Of course, the business of Brexit negotiations look set to dominate the Parliamentary agenda for the foreseeable future, but the day to day business also continues and I am looking forward to continuing to supporting the interests of Central Suffolk

and North Ipswich as your Member of Parliament. By the time this edition

comes to print, Parliament will most likely have held its vote on the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement. Whatever the outcome of that vote, I remain optimistic that working together, we can find a positive and successful way forward. As we embark on a New

Year, my priority, as always, is to work hard for residents in Central Suffolk and North Ipswich and the big issues that matter to you. This includes the final push to achieving 100% coverage of superfast broadband. We are getting closer all the time, but there are areas where it remains stubbornly out of reach. The same applies to mobile phone

coverage and I am looking forward to hosting a further summit meeting early in 2019 as we look to improve Suffolk’s digital infrastructure. I shall also be working hard

with my fellow East Suffolk MPs and County and District Council colleagues to secure the funding for the four- villages bypass along the A12, north of Ipswich, as well as for safety improvements to the A140 near Brome. I will also continue to champion our food and drink producers and farmers here in Suffolk, working in partnership to help secure the best possible Agriculture Bill and I am very much looking forward to welcoming a delegation from the NFU in Suffolk to Parliament early in

2019. In partnership with my

fellow Suffolk MPs and our local Government colleagues, I shall continue to support our schools and early years’ providers and remain committed to making sure that every child here in Suffolk receives the very best start in life.

Finally, I look forward to continuing to support our NHS and local health services as best I can, especially continuing to work with our CCGs as they work to support and enable the delivery of improved mental health services. Thank you for your support

over the last year and I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible throughout the coming year.

This term the Badgers, who are all aged seven to ten years old, have been working towards their Community and First Aid Badger. The Badgers have been lucky enough to meet the local retained firemen and have a guided tour of the fire engine. Our very grateful thanks to Tim, Mick, Darryl and Paul for giving up their time. We have also been learning about the work of a physiotherapist. Our thanks to Katy for explaining her work and some of the exercises used. We have also been preparing items for the Christmas Sale and carol singing, which has included bulb planting and Christmas card making. First aid cover at public

events. Our adult volunteers have been providing first aid cover at public events, including the Framlingham

fireworks, and attending the Remembrance Sunday Parade, in addition to training and attending assessments and courses. All our members are volunteers who kindly give up their time to attend these public duties. When large crowds gather

for public events there needs to be first aid cover to ensure the safety and wellbeing of those attending. Our volunteers are trained in advanced first aid and life saving skills and attend many events each year. In the event of an accident or illness occurring, our volunteers' skills are vital in preventing further harm and saving lives. They provide essential support until the emergency services arrive. We’d like to remind

organisers of events that the more notice you can give, the more likely we’ll be able to provide the necessary first aid cover. At least six weeks’ notice is preferred. For further details call 01473 241500.

Rendlesham Day Nursery children enjoy a fitness class!

NURSERY children recently had a visit from personal trainer Louise Watson who put them through their paces!

Louise is a former Nursery

Nurse at the setting and is now a trainer. She says, ‘I believe promoting physical activity

and exercise to children from a young age will benefit their physical, emotional and social development.’ Rendlesham Day Nursery is

keen to work alongside Louise as exercise generates positive effects during childhood and creates active behaviours through play and games at a young age so the children should be more active & healthy later in life, reducing the risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Rendlesham Day Nursery

has been operating for 14 years and is rated outstanding by Ofsted. It was the first nursery in Suffolk to offer web cams so parents can watch their children from home via a secure, encrypted system.

HAVING worked in the

industry for 16 years, Emma Rogers has recently set up her own business supplying and installing tiles and natural stone to customers in the East Anglian region. However, her new company, Clay Interiors Ltd, offers some- thing that is a little bit dif- ferent.

Emma found her exper-

tise in the tile industry by working for a number of years at an established tile

company in Bury St Edmunds. In that time she has developed an enviable reputation for personal and professional customer ser- vice. Joining Emma at Clay Interiors is her sister Eliza- beth as Studio Manager. Elizabeth also comes to this business with many years’ experience in the industry. It is certainly fair to say this is a family busi- ness that is run on passion, dedication and enthusiasm. In fact, it is clear to see

that Emma and Elizabeth both really enjoy what they do, which is far more than just sell tiles. Firstly, they will happily make an appointment outside nor- mal office hours as they appreciate that busy lives and other commitments don’t always fit around a 9 to 5 diary. Having arranged an appointment, Emma will visit customers in their own homes with a carefully selected range of tiles and from here will discuss ideas that best suit the hom- eowner. They will quickly develop an understanding of the customer’s require- ment, incorporating size, light and shape of the rooms in order to best select a tile, grout and paint colour that is ideal for that environment. Liz explains that what they do is take the stress out of tiling your home and help create the tranquil space you were looking for. Of course, there is a practical point to tiling and this is always a

key part to the brief. This professional and

personable advice is part of the free consultation ser- vice which Clay Interiors prides itself upon. Once the tiles are chosen and the design agreed Clay Interi- ors will liaise with the tiler, builder or project manager to ensure delivery and installation all run smooth- ly and the job is finished to their own exacting stan- dards. The ladies really do love the tiles they supply and so they want to see them finished off beauti- fully, creating the stunning room they deserve to be in. The team also understand

that customers sometimes feel overwhelmed or spoilt for choice when visiting tile showrooms. With this in mind, they have careful- ly selected a bespoke range of uniquely sourced tiles and have tailored their business so that customers can also visit their new showroom by appointment and can effectively use

their valuable time sam- pling a range of tiles expertly selected for them. There are tiles, stone and mosaics for all rooms and all houses, regardless of age, taste and application.
