FRAMLINGHAM ST JOHN

FOR your New Year’s resolution, why not think about volunteering with St John Ambulance in Framlingham? We are actively seeking local adults who would like to learn how to deliver first aid and potentially be the difference between a life lost and a life saved in Framlingham and surrounding villages. if you would like more details about the varied work of St John Ambulance and how you could be a part of it, please do contact us on 01728 621674 or look online at www.sja.org.uk. Framlingham Badger Sett.

This term the Badgers, who are all aged seven to ten years old, have been working towards their Community and First Aid Badger. The Badgers have been lucky enough to meet the local retained firemen and have a guided tour of the fire engine. Our very grateful thanks to Tim, Mick, Darryl and Paul for giving up their time. We have also been learning about the work of a physiotherapist. Our thanks to Katy for explaining her work and some of the exercises used. We have also been preparing items for the

Christmas Sale and carol singing, which has included bulb planting and Christmas card making. Christmas Sale. The Christmas Sale raised £1,208 for St John Ambulance, which is a fantastic result. Thank you to all who kindly supported this very busy event. The monies raised are used to buy first aid supplies for use at public events, to fund members’ training, insurance, purchase of training aids, and servicing, maintaining and updating our equipment - all of which helps towards our aim of being the difference in our local community here in Framlingham. We were pleased to make

items for our Christmas Tree at St Michael’s Christmas Tree festival. First aid cover at public

events. Our adult volunteers have been providing first aid cover at public events, including the Framlingham fireworks, and attending the Remembrance Sunday Parade, in addition to training and attending assessments and courses. All our members are volunteers who kindly give up

their time to attend these public duties. When large crowds gather

for public events there needs to be first aid cover to ensure the safety and wellbeing of those attending. Our volunteers are trained in advanced first aid and life saving skills and attend many events each year. in the event of an accident or illness occurring, our volunteers' skills are vital in preventing further harm and saving lives. They provide essential support until the emergency services arrive. We’d like to remind

organisers of events that the more notice you can give, the more likely we’ll be able to provide the necessary first aid cover. At least six weeks’ notice is preferred. For further details call 01473 241500. Please note, with an increasing number of requests, it may not always be possible to provide the first aid cover as requested.

Framlingham St John would

like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy New Year and thank you for your kind support during 2018.

EARL SOHAM BOWLS CLUB

THE Club’s 16th Annual Beetle Drive was held recently in the Village Hall and was well supported as always. During the evening twelve rounds of Beetle were played by 48 participants and the winner was Rodney Hambira from Kesgrave closely followed by his wife, Jessica, both of them scoring highly. The booby prize was won by Joe Vos from Framlingham. During the interval everyone took part in an elimination card game and the main cash prize was won by Rosemary Keable from Peasenhall. Roger Sykes, an Earl Soham resident, was runner-up and

Ann Lloyd from Framlingham won the third cash prize. An excellent Ploughman’s Supper was served by Rachel Carter and her small team of helpers and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The raffle was generously supported and £162 was raised by this alone. Special thanks were extended to Jackie Oldfield, who, yet again, for the 16th year running, supervised the drive and kept everyone in order! £405 was raised for Bowls Club funds, a most satisfying end to a successful evening.
