OuR last meeting of 2018 must surely have been our most spectacular. Members arriving at the village hall from the gloomy November evening were instantly cheered on seeing the stunning arrangement produced by Jan and Jenny in the foyer. Santa’s sleigh with more bling than you can imagine, stacked with icy arrangements and a sack of toys. We were all instantly transported into our magical Open Meeting. Members, guests and visitors from all over the area poured into the hall. Some clutching a plate of mince pies, most clutching a heavy bag of spending money. Stalls this year were our Surprise £1 parcels, Silly Suffolk Spoons, raffle and a

heavily loaded sales table, selling anything from a packet of sewing needles to handbags and tree baubles to puzzles. June got the meeting started

by welcoming everyone and thanking those who had arrived very early to get everything set up and those who supplied the mince pies. Her Chairman’s charity for 2019 is Over the Rainbow. Over The Rainbow Children’s Charity is a new Charity founded in 2015. Our aim is to enhance the lives of children who are living with a serious or life-threatening illness, by providing financial support

for specialist

equipment for day to day living or to organise special days out to make their wishes come

WICKHAM MARKET FLOWER CLUB OPEN MEETING NOVEMBER 2018

true.

There will be events on throughout the year raising funds for this worthy cause. June then introduced us to our demonstrator for the evening, Beryl Cotton whose topic was “Having the time of our lives” The curtains to the stage were closed and we listened to Slade singing “So here it is, Merry Christmas as they slowly opened revealing a promise of the delights to come. Having driven all the way from North Wales with her husband, Beryl said she was delighted with the warm welcome she had received, along with the help unloading and foliage. Special thanks would also later go to Marilyn for all her help with

greening up and making sure all went smoothly. Beryl talked about the build up to the festive time. The shopping, the cards, presents and the cooking. Sometimes in all the hustle and bustle of our busy lives we forget important things like staying in touch with friends and family living away. Remembering to tell people you love them. That’s why it is always a joy to come home from a busy day to a pile of cards all sharing happiness and love at this joyous time. Arrangement number one

was a large wreath design with white Avalanche roses and Lisianthus. When completed this was beautiful on its own but Beryl lifted it onto a

stand and hung upside down Amaryllis’ and icicle lights around it. A wonderful start. While she added the finishing touches we listened to “Santa baby, slip a sable under the tree for me, been an awful good girl, Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight Santa baby, a '54 convertible too convertible too, light blue……..etc. Beryl told us something

of her upbringing on a cattle farm along with her sister and brother. Happy memories of her first bicycle, her pet donkey, living with her grandparents and Christmas’s past.

driftwood, amazing glass pots. Long trays and bowls with selections of Cerise Gladioli, Red Amaryllis, Soft Ruscus, Phormium Tenax, Kentia Palms, Charlie Brown Cymbidium orchids, peachy roses, and a vast variety of foliage, the stage truly became a sight to behold. We listened to “And so this is Christmas" and the theme from the Snowman. The end result was quite simply amazing. Members gave Beryl a much deserved standing ovation and Elsie gave the vote of thanks. We had all been inspired and immensely in awe of what Beryl had achieved. Beryl said she had enjoyed her time with us and we had been a super friendly club. Why

don’t you come along and join us? Our next meeting is in Wickham Market Village Hall on Thursday 24th January at 7pm when our demonstrator is going to be Lee Berrill and “Natures Song”.
