Breakfast club gets kids off to a winning start
A MAIDSTONE school has picked up a national award for its breakfast club. Molehill Primary Academy’s
morning club took the title of “best breakfast club in the South East”. The awards scheme was spon-
sored by a cereal brand,which of- fered £1,000 towards its funds. Four pupils from the school in
Hereford Road on the Shepway estate travelled up to the Houses of Parliament for the awards cere- mony and tomeet Favershamand Mid KentMPHelenWhately. About 70 children attend the
school’s breakfast club eachmorn- ing for activities including tennis, football, yoga, dance,mindfulness and homework support. Sandra Hammond, pastoral

charge of clearing away. She said: “We are incredibly
proud to be one of the winners. Writing our entry gave us a won- derful opportunity to celebrate the children who attend, not to men- tion the hard-working staff.” She praised the links the school
has with its church, which pro- vides the club’s volunteers. MrsWhately said: “Not only is
amorningwith an empty tummy prettymiserable for a child, it also makes learning harder, so break- fast clubs are really important. They are also a huge help for par- ents who need to get to work be- fore school time.” The primary is part of the Leigh
