province was announced with an investment of approxi- mately $9.7 million spread across 13 new projects. Several of the projects include work to improve fire safety

Winnipeg ordained Priest charged for sexual assault of a youth in the 80s


Police have arrested and charged an ordained priest for


sexual assault of a youth that occurred in the 1980s. Police said in the spring of this year the Child Abuse Unit began an investigation into allegations of sexual assault. Te victim, an adult male, disclosed a series of sexual assaults occur- ring between 1982 and 1988 in Winnipeg while he was a resident student at the St. Boniface Minor Seminary. Te victim was a youth at the time of the offences. On October 3rd a 70-year-old man was arrested. Police have confirmed the man was functioning as an ordained priest holding various positions within the Archdiocese of St. Boniface at the time of the offences. Roland Lanoie has been charged with Sexual Assault x 4 and Indecent Assault.


• • • Winnipeg's AIR1 helps arrest nine people The month of October is only at the half-way point


and AIR1 has helped capture nine people. Police said on Tanksgiving weekend AIR1 helped with the arrests of 9 people for their involvement with four different stolen vehicles. • • • Traffic stop leads to recovery of stolen goods Several snowmobiles, a trailer, an outboard motor and


a skid steer were recovered by police after they spotted a stolen trailer on highway 59 during a traffic stop. On Oc- tober 11, RCMP received a report of the stolen trailer from the Lac du Bonnet area. Tey located it driving on highway 59 and arrested two men at the scene. 49-year-old Neigel Ryan Noel and 40-year-old Cory John Oger of Winnipeg are charged with Possession of Stolen Property and Possession of Break-in Instruments. Neigel Noel was also found to have four outstanding warrants.

Drugs, cash & guns seized from Flin Flon home RCMP recently executed a search warrant in Flin Flon


that led to a major find of drugs, cash and weapons. Police said on September 26th the search warrant was executed at a home on Princess Boulevard in Flin Flon. Police seized the following items from the residence: - over 3 kgs of cannabis, - over 3 kgs of cannabis-infused edible products - over 3 kgs of cannabis-infused jam - 12 long-barreled firearms - a large sum of Canadian currency Mounties arrested 36-year-old Andrew Lyle Wotton at

Manitoba small business optimism sees slight decline in September


The Canadian Federation of Independent Business


released its latest monthly Business Barometer, which reveals optimism among Manitoba’s small business own- ers declined slightly in September to 61.1, down from 62.4 in August. It is now just below the national average index of 61.4. “Manitoba's small business optimism inched slightly


backwards in September, with the index sliding down about one point to 61.1. More respondents are now plan- ning to layoff staff (14%) than to hire (11%),” said Jonathan Alward, CFIB’s Director of Provincial Affairs for Manitoba. “However, the state-of-business indicator improved slightly with 43 per cent of owners saying their businesses are in good shape, while just 6 per cent reported that their firms are in poor shape.” Nationally, small business confidence held steady in


September at an index of 61.4, almost identical to the 61.6 posted in August.

Maple Bus Lines announces new Northern Manitoba bus service


Greyhound service to Northern Manitoba communities


will come to an end soon, however, a Manitoba company has stepped-up to offer bus service. Thursday Maple Bus Lines long-haul transportation


announced they will fill the Greyhound gap between Win- nipeg and Tompson. Te Round trip between Tompson to Winnipeg will run


Sunday through Friday. Te Round trip between Cross Lake to Tompson runs Sunday through Tursday. Maple Bus Lines also said they will introduce more new routes, that in- clude routes between Te Pas and Winnipeg starting early 2019. Stops will include all communities along the way.
