Each has their own story, their own reasons for being there, but the community they build together has an effect beyond what any therapist can offer. Constantly moving between humour and wrenching emotion, Happy Place is a sincere and con- temporary look at mental illness and the never-straight path to healing.


Ravel, Briten, Shostakovich – In Remembrance November 9 - 10, Centennial Concert Hall Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the End


of WWI. Renowned British violinist Tasmin Little per- forms the pacifist Britten’s sublime Violin Concerto. Ravel dedicated Tombeau de Couperin to six friends fallen in WWI. Shostakovich’s Ninth Symphony was intended as a grand ode to soviet victory in WWII. Instead, he delivered a delightful work reminiscent of Mozart, a rebuff to Soviet authoritarianism.


Winnipeg Santa Claus Parade November 17, Portage Avenue and Young Street Te parade has been a Winnipeg tradition for more


than a century. Winnipeg’s parade is now the second largest parade in Canada and the largest nighttime parade in the country. Presented by Manitoba Hydro the parade will start at 5:00 p.m. at Portage Avenue and Young Street and heads east down Portage Avenue all the way to Main Street ending at Westbrook Street. Remember, dress for the weather, give yourselves lots of time to get downtown, and don’t be naughty, because Santa is watching!

Empire of the Son November 28 - December 9, Prairie Teatre Exchange From the ashes of Hiroshima to modern-day Van-


couver, a funny, emotional portrayal of fathers and sons. Former CBC broadcaster Tetsuro Shigematsu and his emotionally remote father, Akira, shared the same profession, communicating with millions, but not with each other. When Akira’s health begins to falter in his old age, Tetsuro bridges the gap between them with the only object they both understood: a microphone. As he learns about how his own father was once a son, Tetsuro realizes all the ways in which he, himself, needs to step up and become a better dad. An original, multi-media presentation.
