SCA’s 2019 Winter Seminar will take place January 17–19
in Austin, Texas. This is a smaller, more focused and intimate seminar than ASCA’s annual conference and offers Administrator Education Units (AEU), Certified Ambulatory Infec- tion Preventionist (CAIP) and Cer- tified Administrator Surgery Center (CASC) credits. The seminar will offer three days of ASC-specific education in three spe- cialized tracks: ■■
Infection Prevention Techniques for ASCs will examine best prac- tices in sterilization, instrument reprocessing and the policies and

procedures you need to sustain a comprehensive infection prevention program in your ASC.
Coding Update & Reimbursement Strategies will ensure that you max- imize reimbursements at your cen- ter by preparing your ASC for the coding and billing changes coming in 2019.

ASC Management Essentials (new in 2019) will focus on best practices and practical, effective ways for your ASC to remain compliant and pros- per in the face of the rapid changes defining the health care marketplace this year.
An Attendee’s Perspective “Attending the annual winter sem- inars is a must for our center,” says Theresia Russell, CASC, business office manager at Pacific Rim Out- patient Surgery Center in Belling- ham, Washington. “Attending the coding track provides us with all the updates for added codes, discontinued codes and new rules for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The specialty break-out ses- sions are always a great way to keep up in this area.”
Russell has been attending the winter seminar for the last 10-plus years, she says. “In the beginning, it used to be the coding seminar but now the winter seminar is providing addi- tional education for infection preven- tion and ASC management, which is
