Successfully Completed Fabrication Project for one of the World’s Largest Wind Farms
The North East’s leading providers of fire, blast and heat hazard solutions - Mech-Tool Engineering (MTE) - has successfully completed a fabrication project comprising a series of transportation cradles for one of the world’s largest wind farms to date.
Awarded by Able UK, the Darlington engineering firm has built eight heavy duty steel fabricated transportation cradles that will be used to move the transition pieces used on the wind turbines of Hornsea One offshore wind farm.
Located 120km off the Yorkshire coast – and reported to be the largest wind farm in the world – once complete Hornsea One is anticipated to power two million homes. Due for completion in 2021, the wind farm will comprise 174 turbines and will feature the longest powerline cable route at 900km.
The completion of the project comes on the back of MTE announcing that it will be manufacturing 20 suspended internal support structures (SIPS) for the prestigious wind farm. The contract was awarded by Billingham based OSB EEW.
Speaking about the completion of the fabricated cradles, Anthony Jones, Managing Director at MTE said: “We are extremely pleased of how this project has progressed and MTE has delivered the eight cradles in only a matter of 16 weeks. This is true testament to our ability to turn projects around quickly, without compromising on quality.
“We are delighted to be working on a number of orders on this ground-breaking scheme and
we have forged excellent relationships with our clients on these. Our solutions and outstanding engineering capabilities are recognised as world leading - and we are delighted to very much be at the forefront in what we do - which is why we believe MTE has been chosen as a key supplier on this prestigious project.”
Most recently MTE has secured the respected RoSPA award – with a gold accreditation – for the 18th consecutive year. The award merits large and small companies across various industries for commitment to health and safety standards, an area in which MTE
