CargoLogicHolding intends at the
Farnborough International Airshow including a letter of intent to acquire 29 Boeing 777 Freighters, confirmation of an order for five Boeing 747- 8 Freighters, a crew pairing solution and an agreement to work together on future freighter projects. While Volga-Dnepr Group
is among the world’s largest Boeing 747 freighter operators, it now plans to expand its future fleet options with a commitment for the twin- engine 777 Freighter.
Descartes hails first CDS declaration
Descartes says that the first successful declarations submitted via HMRC’s new CDS system had been carried out using its e-Customs system, on 3 September. The soſtware firm says it has been working closely with HMRC to prepare the first trader for making the first declaration
using the Chief replacement and was now working to help other clients to prepare for this and future releases. Descartes’ director of product
management, customs Europe Martin Meacock commented: “This a critical milestone in the development of CDS and we are honoured to be the first soſtware
house to successfully submit a CDS declaration on behalf of our customers. There are a number of changes between the CDS system and CHIEF, which are not only technical but also around the rules of completion and data required to comply with the EU Union Customs Code. We have worked closely with the HMRC and our customers to achieve this and will be introducing new features to facilitate the additional CDS import export functionality in future

Inchcape owner sets up standalone forwarder
The Investment Corporation of Dubai has launched ISS Global Forwarding as a separate company from Inchcape Shipping Services. The investment arm of the
emirate’s government said that creating two standalone companies would optimise growth and customer focus in logistics and marine services, respectively. Headquartered in Dubai and operating out of the Dubai Airport
Free Zone, ISS Global Forwarding will focus on global freight forwarding, contract logistics and projects, including oil and gas. It will initially be present in 18 countries but will expand its footprint to Asia Pacific, mainland China and Singapore. It already has partnerships with global operators. ISS Global Forwarding will be
led by Enver Moretti who said: “We are establishing ourselves as a regional powerhouse and our aspiration is to be recognised within the supply chain logistics industry as a customer centric organisation.” Chief executive and
executive director of the Investment Corporation of Dubai, Mohammed Ibrahim
Al Shaibani, added: “We are confident in the future global growth opportunities presented by the supply chain logistics industry. We
see particular

Rhenus buys in Ireland German forwarder the
Rhenus Group has signed an agreement to acquire Ireland’s Avant
Air and Sea, subject
to approval. Avant, based in Dublin and founded in 1990, specialises in temperature- controlled and pharmaceutical shipments as well as hazardous consignments.
It also operates branches in
Shanghai and Hong Kong and provides weekly consolidation and groupage freight services from China, the US and other Asian and Oceanic origins. Its portfolio of services includes consolidation, express, hand- carry and AOG services for air freight (particularly spare parts
for aircraft that are urgently required). Avant is also an Authorised
Economic Operator (AEO) and has IATA Dangerous Goods (DG) and Good Distribution Practice (GDP) certification. It will operate within the
Rhenus Group under the name Avant Rhenus.

Qatar Airways will increase frequency of its flights between Manchester and Doha to triple daily from May 2019. The carrier currently operates 16 flights per week between the two cities – double daily on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays with triple daily flights already operating on Mondays and Saturdays. They will be operated by Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A350 aircraſt.
IAG Cargo is to launch a direct service from London Heathrow to Pittsburgh from 2 April 2019. It will run year-round, four times a week, operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, with a cargo payload of up to 14 tonnes per flight.
Chinese private carrier Uni-top Airlines has added a three-times-a- week freighter route from Liege, Belgium, to Wuhan, operated by a B747-400F. It follows the opening of a route Luxembourg to Wuhan in January.
British Airways and Air France’s low-cost arm Joon are to end flights to Tehran in September, citing low profitability. Air France partner KLM has already announced that it is to scrap the flights. British Airways says its service from London to the Iranian capital was “currently not commercially viable” aſter President Donald Trump’s imposition of new sanctions on Iran.
Tianjin Airlines is to add a third weekly Tianjin – Chongqing – Heathrow service from 18 September, on Tuesdays. It will be operated by an Airbus A330-200 aircraſt.
Etihad Cargo has launched a FreshForward service for fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, fish, meat and flowers. It prioritises the transfer of perishable cargo from the aircraſt into a dedicated centre at its Abu Dhabi hub, and subsequently onto reefer trucks to be delivered anywhere in the UAE.
Time-critical logistics specialists GBA Services has set up a dedicated Aerospace Division. One of the early projects of the new division will be a dedicated components ‘milk-run’ service, delivering airside to all UK airports to support airlines and their supplier bases. The services will also dovetail with GBA’s comprehensive pan- European road operations throughout Europe.
Luſthansa and Brussels Airlines are to jointly market their cargo capacity from 1 September and space is now bookable with the German carrier. The move will give Luſthansa Cargo customers access to the Belgian carrier’s bellyhold network, in particular its 15 destinations in West, East and Central Africa, via Brussels.
DHL Express announced an order for 14 Boeing 777 Freighters at the Farnborough International Airshow on 16 July, along with options and purchase rights for seven additional aircraſt. The delivery of the first four planes is expected to be completed in 2019. They are described as replacements for existing aircraſt, and hence capacity neutral, but will bring significant cost, efficiency and reliability benefits.
Fast van operator Simpex Express has more than doubled its capacity in Birmingham with a move to larger premises at the city’s airport. In Leeds, it has recruited two new members of staff - Linsey Stanley and Beata Talan.

Istanbul New Airport will open for passenger flights on 31 October, with the existing gateway, Atatürk closing on the same day. A domestic flight by flag carrier Turkish Airlines to Ankara at 2pm will be followed by the first overseas flights to Northern Cyprus and Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, Turkish Airlines will deploy 800 trucks to transfer all its equipment and facilities from Atatürk and familiarisation training for airline employees, ground services and others will start on September 28.
