AAC
Brett Wilmeth, vice president and senior quality leader, and Greg Piper, training and implementation specialist, shared their knowledge at this year’s “GuardianRFID Warrior Expo” hosted by AAC Risk Management Fund (AACRMF). Tis conference is the ideal setting for county law enforcement heroes to learn from the Guardian experts and from each other. Te GuardianRFID system is an inmate monitoring system used in many county jails. It is a high-tech, user- friendly way to monitor and document everything an inmate does in real time. Jail personnel can monitor with ease where prisoners are; what they are doing; whether they have had meals, medications, cell checks, mail, and a host of other things. Te Spartan handheld device used by jail staff can even take a picture or short video as an increased level of data collection. All the documentation provided under the Guardian system provides protection for counties in case of litigation. If you’re not using the Guardian system you may be wondering why you should consider changing the way you have always done things. Paper and pencil have served well for years. Here are a few reasons from Guardian: • 59 percent of managers say they miss important information daily because even though it exists, they can’t find it because it’s on paper. • Senior leaders spend an average of six weeks per year looking for lost documents. • Over 70 percent of all jails still rely on paper as the primary method of records management. Here are a few more statistics based on Arkansas
S
Guardian usage over the last year: • There were over 19 million rows of data logs in
Guardian using jails in Arkansas. If done on paper this would fill 4,000 logbooks. • 60,000 inmates were booked. • 29,000 inmate credentials were issued. • An average of 322 rows of data per inmate booked were logged. Brett and Greg shared information about specific county jails using Guardian in Arkansas. Te chart to the right shows the top five jails recording logs in the system over the last year. Congratulations to these counties and their jail staffs for their dedication to getting the job done in the most efficient and accurate way possible.
COUNTY LINES, SUMMER 2018
heriffs, jail administrators, and other county law enforcement personnel gathered in July at the Association of Arkansas Counties (AAC) for our annual Guardian Users Conference.
SAVINGS TIMES 2 More efficient jail record keeping is possible
Tese logs were recorded on a mobile, handheld device called the Spartan. Tey were stored digitally in the Cloud and can be accessed quickly and easily. If there was a lawsuit in one of these jails and all this information was on paper, how much time and effort would it take to find? Would they even be able to find the precise information they would need? Finally, if there was an incident that ended in litigation, and the information had been recorded on paper at a later time when time was available to make the report, how well would it stand up in a court law? Tis information was gathered on the spot, not written down at a later time, and is considered highly credible in a court of law. We would like to commend the following officers that
Becky Comet AAC Member Benefits Manager
recorded the most logs in the Guardian system during the last year. Tank you all for your service to this state and your counties. Your hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed.
Sevier County — Ryan Collum — 57,375 logs Boone County —- Gabe Fowler — 47,516 logs Sebastian County – Melissa Bartlett – 44,243 logs Greene County — Mark Caldwell — 42,920 logs White County — Adam Harris — 35,407 logs
Tanks to Brett and Greg from Guardian for coming to
Arkansas to continue to train our county law enforcement heroes. We appreciate your recognition of their hard work. Did you know Arkansas is the largest user of the
Guardian system in the country? Did you also know the Guardian system is just one of the great benefits of being a member of the AACRMF? If you would like to know more about how you can get the Guardian system installed in your jail — and take advantage of the other AACRMF benefits — please contact me at (501) 372- 7550 or at
