If you’re looking to change your style as we move into next season, here are a few of my suggestions…
1 - Autumnal colour is subtler in its application than Summer’s multi-tonal balayage and ombré effects. Think stunning all-over auburn or copper in the red spectrum, or chestnut and taupe to elevate brunettes to next-level luxe. Icy platinum still looks current for blondes – try a purple-toned shampoo to knock-out any brassiness.
2 - Side fringes look really current and centred-parted fringes were all over the catwalks too – and are often easier to wear than a blunt version. Use a round brush to style each side, then fix in place with spray or even a Kirby grip. You’re aiming for a beatnik vibe rather than a ‘Farrah Fawcett flick’ – check out Alexa Chung for inspiration.
3 - Grow out Summer’s jaw-length bob into the new ‘midi’ length, falling just above the shoulders. Slight layering through the ends creates a hint of movement and texture, which is crucial to the new shape and a centre part adds a chic yet youthful edge.
4 - Go large with your style – volume looks sexy and powerful and is such a refreshing change from the flat roots and wavy lengths that seem to dominate the red carpet these days. Channel Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer at their 1990s best – set hair on large heated rollers and dress out with a paddle brush and hairspray for lasting volume with movement.
