What we do at Heart of Kent Hospice

It’s a common myth that hospice care is only for people approaching the end of their lives - but at Heart of Kent Hospice we transform people’s lives.

Right now we are caring for and supporting over 550 people in Maidstone and the surrounding area helping them, their carers and their families to achieve the very best quality of life possible, for as long as possible. We look after the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the people in our care and provide support for people in the Hospice, in the community, and in their own homes.

Our outstanding staff and dedicated volunteers offer a range of services to ensure people get the support they need, from welfare advice, physiotherapy

and counselling, to games, relaxation sessions and arts and crafts. Our specialist health care professionals and Hospice Community Team are on hand, round the clock, to ensure patients receive the very highest levels of care, in the place of their choosing.

Sally was diagnosed with terminal cancer two years ago: “After being diagnosed I was referred to Heart of Kent Hospice. I didn’t know if it was the right place to visit at that time, but I plucked up the courage to attend the Monday drop in session. Heart of Kent Hospice has given me a great gift, the love and support of many people including staff, volunteers, and patients and for that I am truly grateful.”

Shaun was diagnosed with skin cancer which spread to his lungs, and was referred to Heart of Kent Hospice by his hospital: “At first I was daunted by the thought of a hospice. When I visited Magnolia Place, I was expecting it to feel like a hospital but it’s so relaxed, caring and friendly. As soon as you walk in, you’re

welcomed by warm smiles and greetings from everyone. It changed my perceptions of a hospice completely.”

As an independent charity, Heart of Kent Hospice relies on the generosity of its supporters to be able to care for people like Sally and Shaun. A single, unforgettable journey on board the luxury Northern Belle would fund a community care nurse for two days, or pay for specialist counselling support for two families.

This unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the glamour and elegance of 1920s steam travel would make a remarkable gift for Christmas, a birthday, wedding or anniversary. Whether marking a special occasion, or simply sharing the experience with a friend or loved one, you’ll be helping to ensure that Heart of Kent Hospice can be there for all the people who need us, now and in the future.
