Our area is always popular with tourists, but summer and Christmas bring them out on masse. Great for the regional economy, the tourist pound is so significant for local retailers, as is the support of people who live within the area, something several of our columnists pick up on this month – buying local is high on the agenda.

For this issue I chatted with Lyn Rigby; her son Fusilier Lee Rigby will be forever engrained in our memories and hearts. His cruel murder at the hands of extremists unfolded on TV, at the time I recall thinking, how on earth can his family come back from this? Showing the ultimate strength of character, Lyn now spends her time fundraising for the foundation she set up in Lee’s memory and Lee Rigby Lodge which offers support to members of the armed forces and their families. In this interview she explains how the support of the foundation has also been requested by those affected by the Manchester bombing a year ago.
