SAN DIEGO LGBT COMMUNITY CENTER’S NEW CEO
by lisa lipsey With a heartfelt thanks to Dolores Jacobs, we warmly welcome the
new CEO Caroline (Cara) Dessert to the San Diego LGBT Center and look forward to seeing how her passion and experience will continue to guide, protect and serve our great San Diego LGBT family. Dessert, a self-described queer Latina, is an attorney with 15 years
in social justice leadership who has been the organization’s Chief Development and Community Engagement Officer since 2016. She previously served as the Executive Director of Immigration Equality as well as working for the California Department of Justice in the Office of the Attorney General, with the U.S. Central District Court of California and with California’s Fair Employment and Housing Commission. She was kind enough to sit down withThe Rage Monthly to talk about what’s in store for the organization and how she is settling in.
CARA DESSERT
THAT HAS BEEN THE ROLE THE CENTER HAS PLAYED SINCE OUR FOUNDING.
WE HAVE SERVED AS OUR COMMUNITY’S TOWN
HALL, OUR HOME BASE. WE ARE THE PLACE
THAT OUR COMMUNITY COMES BOTH TO CELEBRATE OUR
VICTORIES AND MOURN OUR LOSSES.”
