CEO Chat (continued)

Lobbying is a strange, but vitally important pastime and at times a bit of a dark art. I refer to the launch and roll out on 1 July of the new Australian national commercial vessel safety scheme that has caused many surveyors considerable angst, which in some cases has even turned to anger. Clearly, it would seem to prove that regulators forging ahead without engaging meaningfully with relevant parties and stakeholders is folly and destined for a problematic outcome. IIMS conducted some research to find out exactly what Australian members thought about the new scheme. The results were revealing and have been circulated to a wide range of interested parties as well as directly to the AMSA CEO and Deputy Prime Minister of Australia. Clearly this one has a long way to run, so watch for developments. In the meantime, the press release published by Marine Business is worth a read - see https://bit.ly/2Jxl3ok.

You can read in this bulletin about the various training events and seminars we have planned for the latter part of 2018. There are a lot and something for everyone, no matter where you are located. Do take a look and I hope to see you at one or other event either in person, or as an online delegate.

And finally, at the time of writing I am preparing to head to Singapore to host our three day IIMS and eCMID seminars taking place from 31 July to 2 August. I am very much looking forward to catching up with members and eCMID AVIs out there. A full report will follow in next month’s news bulletin.

Survey well! Mike Schwarz Chief Executive Officer
