Portsmouth Rotarians Award $2,000 Scholarship to I.C. Norcom Grad

Zoe Sara Campbell, a June
graduate of (Portsmouth’s) I.C. Norcom High School, recently received the Portsmouth Rotary Club’s Ben W. Foster Memorial Scholarship. Tis annual $2,000 scholarship is awarded on the basis of an applicant’s academic record, on his/her school activities and community service. She’s the daughter of Janeen Perry-Campbell and Derrick Campbell.

was an honor student and took advanced courses in English, Earth Sciences, Biology, World History, Chemistry and Medical Terminology. She also was a member of the National Honor Society. Academically, she was ranked 33 out of her class of 290, with a cumulative average of 3.6 out of a possible 4.0.

extra-curricular the
Norcom marching band, and was co-chairperson of her school’s varsity Cheering squad. And
outside of
school, she participated in Portsmouth Volunteers for the Homeless. scholarship
Ms. Campbell will study
Pharmaceutical Science at North Carolina Central University in Durham, with her goal of becoming a pharmacist. Her high school’s Assistant Principal, Paul Wilson, said in part in recommending Ms. Campbell for this Rotary scholarship, “She is not only competent in performing difficult tasks, but that she is innovative, and has a mind to work hard in all that she does. Humble, dedicated and driven are three adjectives I would use to describe Zoe’s work within our school, and the greater community.”
Gail Pittman, the Rotary Club’s
scholarship chairperson, said, “Te Rotary Club of Portsmouth is honored to annually award the Ben Foster Memorial Scholarship to a deserving graduating senior from one of our Portsmouth high schools. “Zoe Campbell has worked hard at her academics, as well as her service and extra-curricular activities. She has set high career goals for herself, and our club is pleased to help her achieve them,” Ms. Pittman added.
