Student's 'Never Give Up' Spirit Leads to Saint Leo University Graduation Day

Volume 12 Number 10

July 2018

Tawanda Davis BY SAINT LEO UNIVERSITY CHESAPEAKE - On February

16, 2012, Tawanda Davis suffered a stroke as a result of a narrow artery in her head. Physicians were able to repair the artery but she woke from the surgery permanently blind. She also was unable to walk and had difficulty speaking. As time passed, Davis regained her mobility and speech, but not her sight.

Davis was unhappy at first, but thanked God that she was still alive. She knew God had a mission for her to complete. This helped her develop a "never give up" spirit.

That same spirit led her to tomorrow earn her Bachelor of Arts

degree in human services from Saint Leo University.

The commencement ceremony

in which her degree was conferred took place at the Hampton University Convocation Center at 700 Emancipation Drive, Hampton, VA.

Davis also is the first person

in her family to attend college and graduate. She took classes at Saint Leo University's Chesapeake Education Center, 1434 Crossways Blvd., Suite 175, Chesapeake, VA 23320.

She was among 500 students from Saint Leo University's Virginia centers to receive their degrees during their recent commencement exercises.
