Endless Wonders of heritage
The heritage of La Manche cannot be summed up, with its many diverse forms and origins. The architecture here is varied and contrasted: maritime, seaside, medieval, religious, urban, rural, industrial or reconstruction. There are so many opportunities to visit manors and castles, cathedrals and abbeys, villas and farms, or towns and villages.
Must-see
the maritime fortifications: Vauban’s towers in Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue: inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the forts and dykes of Cherbourg harbour;
the Coutances area: the gothic cathedral in Coutances, the castles of Gratot and Pirou, the abbeys in Hambye and Lessay, and churches and chapels;
the Clos du Cotentin: Valognes, “Normandy’s Little Versailles”, with its private mansions. Saint-Sauveur-Le-Vicomte and Bricquebec;
Villedieu-Les-Poêles, listed as a “Town of Craftwork” for its great artisan copper tradition.

Gastronomy and local products are also an heritage of la Manche. In Normandy, it’s a way of life! Stroll through the aisles of la Manche’s markets, take in the scents, and enjoy the colours of the fruits and vegetables. It’s the first step on a taste discovery.
Continue your discovery with a visit to a fine food shop or to a producer of local products. And finally, take the time to taste all these products, harmoniously prepared in one of the Michelin- starred or renowned restaurants of La Manche.
