Annual General Meeting report


The 2018 IIMS Annual General Meeting took place at the Hilton Garden Inn, Eastern Perimeter Road, Longford, Hounslow, Middlesex TW6 2SQ on Tuesday 26 June between 13.00 and 15.30.


Given there was no other activity surrounding the meeting, numbers in the room were expected to be low and that was indeed the case. However, the AGM was broadcast live for the first time and nearly 40 members registered to attend via Zoom, although not all made it on the day.


The AGM was opened by outgoing IIMS President, Adam Brancher, who had flown over from Australia. In his opening remarks, he said how proud he was to have held the position for two years as he reflected on the progress and strides the organisation had made over that time.


Adam handed over to Mike Schwarz, who conducted proceedings. In his address, Mike gave a comprehensive overview of the activities IIMS has been involved in since the last AGM as he worked his way systematically through the various departments of the organisation. There were a number of items to be voted on by members. These were addressed and discussed prior to a vote being taken.


A total of eleven new Honorary Fellowships and Fellowships were formally announced at the meeting. Sadly only Capt John Noble was present to collect his Award in person. Arrangements for the others to be presented with their Awards in their own countries will be made in the coming weeks.


Peter Broad, who was the management board’s recommendation for the post of Deputy Vice President, had come from South Korea and addressed members eloquently as he spoke about his close association with the Institute over many years.
