he European Pellet Conference, the largest annual pellet event in the world, was held in Wels, Austria, from 28 February-1 March. The conference was once again a great success as the meeting place for the


UK subsidiary for Messe Frankfurt


The international network of Messe Frankfurt has been further expanded with the acquisition of Forest Exhibitions Ltd and the Group now has its own subsidiary in the United Kingdom.


In the last financial year, over 560 exhibitors and around 15,300 visitors came from the United Kingdom to trade fairs in Frankfurt. Wolfgang Marzin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Messe Frankfurt, explained the background to the latest acquisition: “It is important for our company to promote commercial exchanges at European and global level at our 30 trade fair locations around the world. In addition, the UK is an attractive trade fair and export market for our international customers. Another important strategic factor for us today is the proximity to our British partners and organisers, who are regular visitors to Frankfurt.” The former Event Director of Forest Exhibitions Ltd, Simon Albert, is to be Managing Director of the new Messe Frankfurt subsidiary and is “proud to be part of one of the largest trade fair companies in the world and to contribute to its success from the UK”. European Pellet Conference Forest Bioenergy Review Future Resource

The conference presented the latest technology trends, updates on policies, legislation and standardisation, news from research and innovation, an outlook on the developments of European and global markets, pilot projects and innovative business models. Highlights included an outlook on bioenergy markets and technology by Ute Collier from the IEA and a policy update on biomass in the ‘Clean Energy Package’ by Nathalie Hemeleers from AEBIOM. In addition to these sessions, the Young Biomass Researchers Conference, technical site visits, a poster presentation and a major energy trade show made up the well-rounded programme. Upper Austria is a European leader in the transition to clean energy and an ideal location for such a conference: more than 25 % of all automatic boilers sold in the EU are manufactured by Upper Austrian companies and pellet heating systems have become a standard solution in the region. The European Pellet Conference is part of the World Sustainable Energy Days (WSED), one of Europe’s largest annual conferences in this field. Organised by the OÖ Energiesparverband, the energy agency of Upper Austria, WSED offers a unique combination of events on energy efficiency and renewable energy.


The next edition of the European Pellet Conference will take place in Wels from 27-28 February, 2019.
