YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

What are Home Care Services?

Home Care Services support you to live well and independently, increasing the ease and enjoyment of remaining in your own home.

Our goal is your ongoing independence, happiness and safety. We offer two support structures, the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) and Home Care Packages (HCP):

• CHSP offers entry-level services such as cleaning, home maintenance, personal care, health services, and active mind and body classes.

• HCP offers higher level services which are packaged together, giving you access to a greater range of services.

Both options are funded by the Australian Government Department of Health.

For more information please visit health.gov.au.

Which support is right for you? If you need basic assistance with daily tasks, CHSP may be able the most suitable support. If your needs are more complex, HCP - with its greater range of services - may be more appropriate.

We can assist you with either support program, providing you with information or guiding you through the application and assessment process via My Aged Care.

My Aged Care is the Australian Government’s contact centre, which assesses people’s needs and approves eligibility for Home Care Services.

For more information or to understand your eligibility please visit myagedcare.gov.au or call 1800 200 422.

Who pays for your Home Care Services?

For CHSP there is a flat fee charged per hour of services.

For HCP there are two types of fees:

• Basic daily contribution - If you are on a full pension, you will be asked to contribute a per day amount

• Income-tested fee - if you are not on a full pension will be asked to contribute an amount based on income.

Importantly, the amount contributed is the same, regardless of the level of your HCP.

You may wish to consult a financial adviser about your Home Care Services.

What if you need extra financial assistance?

If you need extra assistance or do not have capacity to make contributions, you can apply for a Hardship Supplement via the Australian Government Department of Human Services. Uniting Communities cannot apply for this on your behalf, however, we can assist you to prepare and submit the application.

For more information please call the Australian Government Department of Human Services on 1800 227 475.
