EastEnders star to beHazli’s genie
SOAP starRichardBlackwood has been named as the star of this year’s pantomime at the Hazlitt Theatre,Maidstone. Richard (45),who has an impres-
sive range of talents as an actor, co- median and rapper, will be treading the boards in Maidstone fromDecember 1 to 31. He plays the genie inAladdin. In 2015, he joined the cast of Eas-
tEnders as the mysterious Vincent Hubbard, but recently announced hewas leaving the hit soap. Hazlitt general manager Martin
Cleverly said: “The Hazlitt The- atre’s 2018 programme is full of bigger and better productions in comparison to years gone by, so it couldn't let things slipwhen it came to the celebrity of its in-house pan- tomime. “Richard Blackwood will be a
fantastic member of the cast and part of a production that promises to entertain, delight and wow the visiting crowds.” TheHazlitt faced competition last
Christmas from another panto being staged in the county town. Last year’sCinderella production
– which starred TV chef and na- tional favourite Rustie Lee – was hailed a success, despite another production being staged close by.

“Richard is a bit of a coup for us and judging by the reaction so far, it is going down verywell. “He has been around for quite a
while, is a talented guy and has done a lot of different things in his career, so his following is quite wide. “We’re very excited and we’ll
have other announcements tomake as the summer progresses. “We’re hoping that this year’s
panto can build on the success of Cinderella, whichwas verywell re- ceived.” Meanwhile, the Peter Andre

to arrange an additional date for the singer inMaidstone after tickets for his appearance in June sold out. The Hazlitt says consideration is

Policewarn of bike thefts
KENT Police have issued advice to bike owners after a string of thefts across theMaidstone area. A high number of bike thefts
reported to police have included ones taken from sheds and out- buildings, or locked up outside supermarkets. In one case in MelfordDrive, on the evening of April 27, the wrought iron con- tainer the bike was secured to was takenwith it. A police spokesman said: “Bi-
cycles can be stolen from any- where so ensure your bike is secure. “Buying a good quality lock,
such as a D-lock, can deter thieves fromtrying to steal cycles.
“If storing your bike in a
garage, shed or outbuilding, make sure this is also secured.” Officers are also advising bike
owners to take further measures to ensure that if they are a victim of bike theft, their property is easily identifiable. “We also strongly advise peo-
ple to register their property at
www.immobilise.com, a website which allows people to register a variety of items free,” the spokesman added. “PCSOs will be conducting
bike marking events in Maid- stone over the next few months. This enables bikes to be regis- tered on a national database.”
