MESSAGE FROM THE CEO ASCA Offers New Programs to its Members N

ow that the annual meeting is behind us—and I hope all of you who were able to join us returned home with useful takeaways in the form of new ideas, information and connections—I want to share two new programs with you. The ASCA Foundation has partnered with One World Surgery, a US-based nonprofit, to support its mission of providing access to high-quality surgical care globally. Through this partnership, the ASCA Foundation has launched a scholarship program for nurses, surgical techs and scrub techs interested in One World Surgery’s weeklong medical missions at the Holy Family Surgery Center in Honduras.

Each scholarship covers the program fees associated with participating in the medical mission, as well as roundtrip coach airfare for the participant. Program fees cover food and lodging, ground transport in Honduras, and emergency medical and evacuation insurance. The scholarship is derived from the revenue we earn from our affinity partners and can remove a financial burden for eligible ASCA members, allowing them to use their clinical skills to participate in a life-changing weeklong medical brigade. For information about the ASCA Foundation’s scholarship program, including eligibility requirements, visit ASCA’s Medical Mission Scholarships page at www.ascassociation.org/ows-scholarships. Turn to page 10 of this magazine to read an interview with One World Surgery’s

executive director Claire Cunningham. The other new program we are offering is the ASCA Learning & Compliance

Center, www.ascassociation.org/medtrainer. ASCA has joined hands with affinity partner MedTrainer to provide ASCs with this center through which ASC professionals will be able to access educational programming and tools they can use to help manage governance, risk, compliance and credentialing tasks in their centers. Using this online solution, ASCs will be able to access, organize and manage
