Ashburton Carnival

ASHBURTON’S carnival is possibly one of the oldest surviving in Devon. It dates back more than a hundred years with written records of it taking place in 1891. It is thought to have been formed to raise funds for building a new hospital in the mid 1880s. Events today are no less colourful than in the past

with eight days of activities starting on the last Saturday in June with the Pensioners’ Coffee Morning. A week-long programme culminates in the grand procession of floats through the town on the first Saturday in July. For details of these

and other events taking place in Ashburton visit www.ashburton.org.
