Making sense of the Brexit supply chain - IEA unveils seminar series
The Irish Exporters Association (IEA) is holding events throughout 2018 in its Supply Chain Series. The initiative, now in its second year, will focus on import and export challenges for manufacturers and service providers; offer solutions and practical support from logistics, trade finance experts and exporting companies; provide information around third country shipping and associated documentation as well as maximising opportunities with our air, road, sea and rail services. There will be IEA Supply Chain
Seminars in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Dundalk with case studies from local exporters, experts in industry standards, regulatory and compliance, as well as best practice advice across the supply chain by experts. Each seminar will incorporate critical breakout sessions on trade issues. Four invitation-only Exporters
Roundtables, chaired by Patrick Daly, will allow manufacturers to address some of the larger issues from the seminars and webinars, as well as discussing local issues. They will include finance, logistics, transport, energy, and sectors food & drink, life sciences, ICT, energy and engineering – all of which will feed into IEA policy, training, consultancy services and member representation. Multimodal Working Groups
(formerly known as IEA Railfreight Group) and chaired by IEA logistics consultant Howard Knott, will provide a platform to discuss the importance of multimodal
partnering in the supply chain and associated opportunities and challenges. Finally,
12 interactive online
seminars will look at specific supply chain topics and include guest speakers on: AEO, trade finance, revenue recognition, invoice discounting, cashflow/working capital, customs awareness, Union Customs Code, revenue, GDPR, procurement, digital supply chain and Ireland as a location. IEA chief executive, Simon
McKeever, commented: “Every business, whether an exporter or service provider, an SME or corporate, will have a supply chain. The aim of this initiative is to provide a platform for companies to connect, learn how to manage and protect their business from risks around currency fluctuations, cashflow and working capital management, getting product from the point of origin to the customer, maximising sustainability and ensuring compliance. The IEA is delighted to be working with sponsors Rhenus Logistics, Ulster Bank, Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail, and media partner Fleet Transport.” Eddie Cullen, Managing Director, Commercial Banking Division, Ulster Bank said: “We know from Rhenus Logistics Ireland managing director Declan Sinnott, added: “The Irish Exporters Association Supply Chain programme of events provides a real platform to share and exchange supply chain innovations and developments across a number of industries.”
New grouping to tackle high-cube box shortage
International Warehousing & Transport (IWT) and temperature controlled refrigerated container carrier 2B Shipping - a division of the Farm Trans Group – signed a strategic alliance in Dublin on 7 March. Among other things, it would help deal with a lack of high- cube reefer box capacity in the Irish market, said the companies. IWT
said that with both

companies strongly positioned in food and drink transport it would bring even greater opportunities to the UK and Irish Export and Import community throughout Europe.
IWT joint managing director,
Colin Dunne, commented: “As part of our strategy and in keeping with
worldwide trends IWT is investing in strategic alliances across our group of companies. I think the market would be surprised to know how limited the supply of 45ſt pallet-wide refrigerated containers is in the market. With a fleet of almost 200 refrigerated containers and an appetite to jointly further invest brings greater options to exporters and importers alike”. Fellow joint managing
director, Paul Scully, added: “We see the potential for growth in this specialised market as an exciting opportunity for both IWT and 2B Shipping and a further commitment to
our extensive asset based range of services.”
