YMCA announced on its Facebook Page that they have selected Portsmouth Police Officer Allen Washington as their annual "Service to Youth" Award honoree. Te Facebook Page post includes photos of Officer Washington with his award and with some of

given annually to a volunteer who gives back to the children we serve.

this award to Officer Washington with the Portsmouth Police Department.


Officer Allen Washington is a Community Enhancement Officer


and PAL Coordinator with the Portsmouth Police Department. In 2017 Officer Washington volunteered at the YMCA to speak to the children of the B&A program about anti-bullying. He brought a creative program that


included


activities, art based learning and a positive image of police officers. Officer Washington also


runs a


summer camp for at risk youth called PALS. In 2017 the Effingham YMCA and the Portsmouth Police partnered to bring the PAL camp to the YMCA for swim lessons and recreational swim. Officer Washington has been an asset to not only the children at the Effingham YMCA but to children in the city of Portsmouth.
