When Morine felt it was time to modernize, he approached Douglas and purchased his sec- ond array of equipment in about 2010, consisting of Maytag Neptune washers, single-load stack dryers, plus two 40-lb.- capacity multi-load washers and two 30-lb. triple-load dryers. So, why does Morine have a laundromat at his convenience store? Back in 1990, a competi- tor offered to sell his business to Morine, but his price was too high. “There was another business fairly close to where I built my old store and it had a coin-op as a nice convenience store, and the gentleman who owned it wanted to sell his com- pany,” recalls Morine. “I did a little research – I already had a nice piece of property – but he wanted more than it would cost me to build my own.” As business thrived in recent
years, TJ’s outgrew the old building and the decision was made to construct a new store. In the spring of 2017, con- struction began on the prop- erty behind the existing build- ing. Once the new building was complete, the old TJ’s store was
torn down and the parking lot was expanded and repaved.
THE SECRET TO SUCCESS Morine attributes his success to having a “friendly staff pro- viding great customer service.” He has about 20 staff “working shifts at my multiple franchises. I have two maintenance people for the laundromat working 10-hour days, two shifts a day. “The laundromat is kept very pristine, the machines are wiped, it’s very clean,” says Morine.
“We want it to look nice; we want our customers to come back. “Right now I feel we probably have the nicest laun- dromat in the Annapolis Val- ley.”
Morine is enjoying the com- pliments. “I love hearing about how big and bright the laun- dromat is with its beautiful machines and how comfortable the atmosphere is. “With the compliments I’m receiving every day about the laundromat and my store, my head is swollen up so big that I have to turn sideways to get through the door!” n
