Export control compliance expert recognised in 2018 New Year’s Honours

Get involved in National Apprenticeship Week

With the availability of a relevant international freight forwarding apprenticeship imminent, BIFA encourages all Members to take part in the 11th National Apprenticeship Week (NAW 2018) which will run from 5 to 9 March 2018. Running alongside this during the same week is

National Careers Week (NCW 2018) and there are bound to be plenty of events happening across the country. Carl Hobbis, training development manager, BIFA

said: “The timing of this annual initiative could not be better, I am sure there are many people within forwarding who started as an apprentice or a trainee and recognise the value these schemes provide for all parties. “Therefore, to support the international freight

forwarding apprenticeship, I urge employers and apprentices to work together and celebrate the success of apprenticeships whilst encouraging even more

6

people to get into our industry via the apprenticeship pathway.” The theme for the NAW2018 is ‘Apprenticeships

Work’, showcasing how apprenticeships work for individuals, employers, the community and the benefits to the wider economy. Some ideas what you could do or how you could get

involved are: • Offer work experience • Work with a local school or college • Get involved in or stage an event • Make a video or write a blog • Utilise your social media channels.

We would be grateful if you could include @BIFA if

you plan to use social media and the relevant hashtags #NAW2018 and #NCW2018 Please send any stories of your activities to s.hammond@bifa.org or c.hobbis@bifa.org

Bernadette Peers, compliance manager at defence/aerospace specialist Strategic Shipping has been awarded an MBE in HM The Queen’s New Year Honours list for services to Export Control. Well known to many members

through her training and presentations at BIFA and around the country, Bernadette’s efforts to make this important subject accessible both to exporters and the wider import/export community are rightly recognised and we offer both Bernadette and Strategic many congratulations.
