The final word

Alex (Year 10) ... “I think ESOL is a very good idea for a subject because as an international student you can feel insecure. In ESOL lessons you are with other international students so you feel much more confident. You may think that you only learn English in ESOL lessons, but that isn’t true. You learn other things at the same time!”

Amy (Year 10) ... “I think ESOL lessons help me a lot. There are people from many different countries who come and study English at Sibford. In my class there are two boys from Spain, one boy from Germany, me and another pupil from China plus English pupils. We have to speak English the whole lesson so it is very good practice. We get homework every day but it isn’t too much. You can finish your homework and still have some free time in the evenings to spend with your friends. In class we use songs and games to learn English so it is great fun.”

Ricardo (Intensive English) ... “The largest problem for foreign students is language because English is not their first language. Although English can be difficult for international students, the Intensive English Course helps us improve our ability in speaking, reading, listening and writing. The ESOL teachers are excellent, they use a variety of ways to teach us and make sure we understand the key elements of the lessons. They speak slowly and clearly. English is the most necessary thing for our life in Britain and ESOL lessons make this easier.”

Glenn (Year 10) ... “We don’t just learn common and simple vocabulary but also everyday language. I really enjoy the way we learn at Sibford School. There is always so much going on and the people are so friendly.”
