with two 200 hp outboards. They are also doing a number of other smaller repair jobs on her too. Other work includes repowering two

other 23s. Like many of the yards on the coast,

they have numerous smaller jobs, which will keep them busy right through the winter and into the spring.

panel as well as her annual maintenance. Padebco Custom Boats in Round Pond

is working feverishly on making changes to one building and putting in addition on another one for work and storage space. This is partly due to the fact that they have a lot more storage this year than they did last year. Building #1, which was built a number

of years ago, had just a dirt fl oor for cold stor- age with a workspace to the right side. They have poured a concrete slab with radiant heat in the storage area creating a larger work area along with heated storage space. They have also added a better lighting system. Building

#2, which is to the right of the other building, is having a 10,000 square foot addition put on, which will then give them about 15,000 square feet of storage space. This edition will be done sometime this winter, weather permitting, and for those interested they do have some space available. For work, they are building three 23

footers, which they have already started. One will be going to South Bristol, another to the Blue Hill area, and one to Bath. All three of these boats will be powered with 150 hp Yamaha outboard engines and all will be blue.

has reopened their doors and they are now working on a 35 foot Glas-Spec, which is undergoing a major transformation. They have removed all of her interior, including the bulkhead, and the platform. In late November, they were done ripping apart and were now starting to rebuild her into a sportfi sherman. They called in designer Mark Fitzgerald to answer some of the owners questions and create blueprints to work from. They are now beginning to build panels for the bulkhead, house and interior. Already in was a new 550 hp Cummins with a Twin Disc gear and a new genset. This boat will have a full interior, which will include a V-berth, head with shower down and galley up with heat and air-conditioning. She will also have all the necessary sport fi shing items such as fi sh hold, green stick and nu- merous rod holders. She is scheduled to be completed this summer. Frankfort Boat Works is owned by

Bill Doyle and he is being assisted by Rick Palmer.

Wesmac in Surry is nearing completion

on two 54 footers. The fi rst of the 54s to go over will be a scallop dragger/lobster boat for a fi sherman from New Jersey, named MARKET PRICE. They are now just doing details before she is launched the middle of December. Since this boat is ABS certifi ed she will need to undergo an inclined test, which will be done at Billings Diesel & Marine in Stonington. The other 54 is named BACKSTAB- BER, which is been fi nished out as a sport- fi sherman. This boat has all the bells and whistles one could ever ask for and now they are just doing varnish work and fi nal hookups on the systems. In another bay they have a 46 Wesmac,

SATURN is an 117-foot railroad tug built as the BERN for the Reading Railroad in 1907.

She is one of the last railroad tugs and is

being saved for future generations to enjoy. For more information: (207) 223-8846 or to join the Friends of SATURN, send a check for $25 or more to P.O. Box 710, Winterport, ME 04496. On Facebook: Saturn-Historic railroad tugboat restoration project

which is being fi nished out as a cruiser for a customer from Halifax, Nova Scotia. She will sleep six, with a master state room amidships with a separate shower and head with galley up. She will also sport a swim platform and tuna door. She is powered with a 1000 hp C-18 Caterpillar diesel. This boat will be completed this coming spring. In the next bay is a Wesmac Superwide

46 which is being fi nished out as a sport- fi sherman for a customer from San Diego, California. This boat is powered with a 1400

hp MAN with a Northern Lights Genset. This boat has just started to be constructed and will have a full interior as well as many extras in the cockpit. GUARDIAN III for the Marine Patrol is

in for some minor work. They are removing her stainless steel fuel tanks replacing the bridge deck tiles and making some minor changes for her new skipper. This boat is scheduled to be completed just after the fi rst of the year. In the layup shop, they have another

Buxton Boat in Sunset has two boats

in the shop. One is a Colin Archer designed 38 footer on deck cutter, named MARION D. She was built in Norway in 1950. She has been trucked from San Diego, California several years ago and stored by her owner who was making some repairs to her. He has turned to Peter to do some hull work, which will include making repairs to the stem as the forward water tank leaked causing an issue there: she also had some iron fastenings that have caused an issue in several planks, which will need to be replaced; and he also has a question about the sternpost. This boat has a very interesting history as she was once owned by William Randolph Hearst, the newspaper mogul, and this boat was for his mistress Marion Davies. Hearst funded her career paying for many of the movie she was in.

Also in the shop, is 33 foot AUDREY

E., a mahogany plank lobster boat hailing from Blue Hill. A couple of the planks on the bottom of the transom are being replaced as well as a number of smaller repair jobs. She will be completed in a few weeks.

S. W. Boatworks in Lamoine has all their bays full with more orders to fi ll. In one bay, is a 45 Young Brothers,

which is being fi nished out as a sportfi sher- man for a customer from Boothbay Harbor. She is powered with a 1150 hp C-18 Cat- erpillar and will sport a full interior. The engine and drivetrain are in and they are now building the top. In another Bay they have a Calvin 36, a

kit boat, which will be fi nished out as a lob- ster boat by a fi sherman from Mount Desert Island. She will be powered with a 550 hp John Deere. In another bay is a Calvin 44 which is

being fi nished out as a lobster boat for a fi sh- erman from the midcoast. She is powered with a 750 John Deere. Also under construction is a Mussel Ridge 46. She is being fi nished out as a lob-
