Customs Decisions System launched

The CDS is intended to provide a single harmonised interface for traders to apply for decisions and manage applications and permits. Here BIFAlink looks at how it will work

The European Commission, in cooperation with the member states, launched the Customs Decisions System (CDS) – a hybrid IT system comprising a central system and optional national systems – on 2 October 2017. The primary purpose of CDS is to provide a single harmonised

interface for traders to apply for decisions and manage applications and permits. The system also supports the entire ‘lifecycle’ of the authorisation, allowing it to be suspended, extended, revoked or changed. The implementation was in line with the timetable set out by the European Commission and corresponds to a work programme for the

development and use of ICT systems provided for in the Union Customs Code. First applications were lodged immediately after the launch of the

system, but at the time of writing this article no decisions had yet been made.

How does it work CDS consists of three components: 1. EU Business Portal (Trader Portal – TP); 2. Customs Decisions Management System (CDMS); 3. Customs Customer Reference Services (CRS).
