Turn open space into haven for ourwildlife


PLANS are being made to lobby for four areas to become part of a nature reserve. Keith Clark (63) has founded the


Friends of Weavering Heath and Woodland group in a bid to pre- serve the area aroundGroveGreen. He has identified Five Acre


Wood, Wents Wood, Weavering Heath andGroveGreen as areas he believes should be protected. Mr Clark (pictured) lives on the


Hedgerow, close to all of the sites, with his wife Bev and has now set up the friends group to help bring the idea to fruition. “It’s a great open space here on


the heath,” he said. “And in the woods are endangered species like bats, hedgehogs and hazel dor- mouse – there’s so much going on in that small area. “The people in Greenway have


historically fought for this. We knowthem, and nowwe’ve retired, wewanted to do something for the community and give something back. That’swhywe litter pick and help the council maintain these areas.”

gram manager, while his wife spent 21 years at LeedsCastle as PA to the chief executive before her re- tirement last year. The pair, who have lived on the


estate for 22 years, are already get- ting the ball rolling in maintaining the area by organising litter picks. He added: “Thewhole protection


has been going on for 20 years; originally this was to do with Five Acre Wood and the building of Grove Green, because the whole woodlandwas under threat. “The local residents ofGreenway fought that and it was designated

was ‘a hit and run’ POLICE are appealing forwitnesses to a collision on theA20where a cy- clist suffered serious injuries. The incident happened on Mon-


day, November 6 between 6.45pm and 7pmon theAshford Road near to the junction with Roundwell, Bearsted, when a cyclist was in col- lisionwith awhite flatbed truck. The cyclist, a local man, was
