Midwich gathered over 1,000 visitors, from its partner community, to showcase vendor offers for GDPR (General Data Protection Regula- tion), corporate, retail and education sectors at this year’s Technology Exposed.

Visitors to Technology Exposed heard keynote speaker Kate Adamson and seminars from Fujitsu and KodakAlaris ad- dress the upcoming GDPR. KodakAlaris showcased how its technology can find, categorise and unlock the hidden poten- tial of unstructured data. While Fujitsu presented the only soft- ware available in the UK with a proven track record of success adoption by GDPR compliant companies.

Kate Adamson, Futurist & CEO, Futurenautics, said about GDPR: “1.9 billion records were lost or stolen in the first half of 2017, which is more than during the whole of 2016 and that really demonstrates that

cyber-attacks aren't just likely any longer, they're inevitable. The consequences of breach- ing the new GDPR when it comes into force could be sig- nificant, so it's understandable that businesses are worried, but complying with the GDPR is actually an opportunity to develop digital competence, which is going to be essential for any business to remain competitive in the future.” “It starts with really under- standing the data the organi- sation stores, who owns it and whether it holds a business val- ue, and then having the tools to actively identify, quantify and recover from a breach as effec- tively as possible. If a business

Sahara Showcase 2017

Sahara Presentation Systems again gathered its partners and guests to the Hanbury Manor Hotel for what is traditionally one of the highlights of the AV year. Sahara subsidiary Clevertouch could justifiably claim to have presented one of the stars of the show, with its Pro Series Capac- itive Touch collaboration device, but there was also plenty of interest from Sahara Distribution partners.

The agenda at this year’s Saha- ra Showcase Events was pretty much evenly divided between the education and corporate sectors – much more, perhaps, than in previous years when Sahara was best known for its prowess in education. The ad- vent of the Clevertouch Pro Se- ries, and its capacitive variant, has put the Clevertouch brand in the vanguard of corporate collaboration.

Bur it is the distribution arm of Sahara that is able to sup- ply solutions as varied as LFD, projection, video wall, and presentation software as well as interactive touchscreen in- novations. The refocus on dis- tribution sees Sahara able to supply solutions into an enter- prise-wide corporate environ- ment, school or college. Fortunately, Sahara has taken its loyal band of resellers and integrators forward with it in its endeavours to

drive into new markets. The commitment

and enthusiasm of this group is evident at Hanbury Manor, the Sahara Showcase venue. Sa- hara is known for the relation- ships it builds with its channel partners on both the Clever- touch and Sahara Distributions side of the business. Sahara Distribution’s growing band of vendor partners (currently 18 good brands) is further proof of the company’s ability to build and maintain relationships – particularly since a number of brands

are competitors with

each other and even Sahara’s house brands.

There were no signs of in- ter-brand tensions at Hanbury Manor – far from it, in fact, with the positive opinions about the event being unanimous. While Sahara Showcase is clearly de- signed as a networking event, many of those present felt that the balance between exhibition and presentations was right and genuinely informative. Guest

speakers were invited

because of their unique per- spective and direct experi- ence of developing or install- ing technology within either a corporate or education environment.

They includ-

ed the excellent Dr. Edward Tse, the new Director of Ed- ucation Strategy at NUITEQ, who examined at the three key themes of storytelling, simultaneous personalised learning and safety, and how they can be applied to technolo- gy in the classroom. Adam Harvey, AV and Digital Media Development Manager at the University of Hertfordshire, talked about the techniques his team used to remove the fear of new technology from the teach- ing experience, following the installation of the latest collab- orative technology in the uni- versity’s new science building. Finally, a word of congratulation to Chris Southern of Clevertouch whose presentation of the Pro Series, including the new Ca- pacitive Model, was both infor- mative and entertaining. Overall, the effort and thought applied to the event, and the seminar programme in particu- lar, paid dividends in the good- will generated towards Sahara.

can do those things it's laid the groundwork not only for GDPR compliance, but successful dig- ital transformation too”. Matthew Smith, Product Man- ager Document Solutions, com- mented on the channel opportu- nity: “The potential for growth in

the context of GDPR was

immediately clear to us, and we are proud to bring partners some exciting products that offer clear benefits to those digitising con- tent in light of the incoming reg- ulations. The Document Scan team at Midwich is now able to offer our partners the strongest range of hardware, service and software options in the industry. We can back this up with the knowledge of our scan special-

ists, giving customers unri- valled level of choice, exper- tise and service.”

Iain Campbell, Sales Direc- tor at Midwich commented: “Midwich is organised entirely around our belief that we can’t succeed if our partners don’t succeed. That’s why 2016-17 has resulted in our highest lev- el of staff training investment (£257,000) with 186 people completing customer service related qualifications. With 40% of our 260+ UK sales team specialising in a product, vendor or market, Midwich is ideally placed to support up- coming challenges and oppor- tunities facing our partners, including GDPR compliance.”

Kevin Batley, Managing Di- rector of Sahara Presentation Systems PLC, kicks off the Sahara Showcase 2017.
