Looking Up Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms — to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. ~Viktor Frankl
It seems that Mother Earth has much to express these days and while I can appreciate what she
desires to teach us, I admit that it hurts my heart. In the face of natural disasters I can sometimes feel overwhelmed and helpless... until I remember that it’s no mistake that we have chosen to be on this planet at this time, to usher in a new conscious- ness. If that sounds like a pie in the sky attitude, I might refer you to the highly recommended movie Life is Beautiful, which hums the same tune as Frankl’s quote.
Our life and everyone’s life is a constant choice of love or fear. Which-
ever one we don the moment we awake can influence how we see the rest of our day... it’s that simple. We can see events as devastating, shut down and stay in a place of fear, or we can choose to ask “What’s the next step?” Stay- ing in alignment with our higher vision for our life, we let that be our cruise control guiding us safely through earthly turbulence. The longer we stay in a place of fear, the less of ourselves we have to
offer the world, which urgently needs good thoughts at this time. While it’s okay to feel challenging feelings while learning to shift them, it’s productive to keep moving despite emotional hurdles. So make that call to the Red Cross when the idea occurs, or foster or adopt a furry friend from an Austin shelter that’s in need of a home due to Harvey’s hardships in Houston. At least find some way that feels right to pay forward appreciation for life and the bless- ings that are ours. Gratefully loving others does wonders for the heart.
