There is one form of treatment option that I believe offers potentially excellent results for most people and that is non- surgical facelift treatments using specialised fillers. Although this treatment option is also called ‘non-surgical’ it is, in fact, an invasive treatment, which is carried out using local anaesthetic injections.

All layers from top to deep layers of the face can be ‘restructured’ and almost all areas of the face can be lifted, volumised or smoothed out, contoured and reshaped, depending on your personal requirements. When these techniques are combined, they can provide excellent results in improving facial symmetry and rejuvenation. I personally use specialised aesthetic cannulas to reach all areas of the face, including all the deeper layers, which reduces trauma, swelling and bruising and hence recovery times are usually quick with minimal pain. However, it is important to emphasise that these are not ‘lunchtime facelifts’ and are best performed by highly trained specialist aesthetic doctors and certainly should not be carried out by non-medical therapists.

In specialist hands, these procedures are very safe and the results can be amazing, helping to improve your confidence and self- esteem. Because these procedures are becoming so potentially successful, the percentages of pure surgical cases or ‘going under the knife’ are decreasing every year. In addition, these fillers are very advanced and can help to form collagen, which is the main element in keeping us looking younger and can significantly improve skin quality too.

I have recently lost volume in my cheeks – more specifically, the hollows of my cheeks due to weight loss not age, is there a way of filling out my cheeks?

It is possible to revolumise cheeks using specialised fillers, these are highly advanced technologies based on hyaluronic acid, which is a substance found naturally in the body and skin. It is important that the cheeks are contoured to look soft and rejuvenated and suit your face (which is a very different treatment plan to simply ‘pumping up’ the cheeks) so that a confluent and natural look can be created.

About 3 years ago I had a surgical fat transfer into my cheeks. The results were not what I had hoped for and I was left a bit lumpy and with slightly uneven cheeks. Is there anything that can be done to rectify this?

Unfortunately, sometimes a ‘lumpy’ appearance can form as a result of some cosmetic procedures. The best way to address this may well be to use dermal fillers at varying layers of the face and skin. This will help to create a more softened, confluent and rejuvenated appearance, which will look much more natural. This can be achieved by a specialist aesthetic doctor, of course, as in every case, this would only be possible after a full face to face consultation and physical check-up of your face. In fact, it is important to note that both of the above answers also apply in your case.
