Downtown Buzz News from the Downtown Winnipeg Business Improvement Zone SPOTLIGHT Tipsy Cow

Tipsy Cow Located at 285 Portage Avenue

A

t Tipsy Cow, Le Burger Week never ends. Take its signature burger offering – with thick cut bacon, special TC sauce, whiskey onions and all

the groceries on a toasted beer bun; its decadence could go head-to-head with any creation in the national burger competition, and best of all, it’s always available. When coming up with the Tipsy Cow concept, owners

Josh Mesojednik and Will Bang set their sights on the downtown location first, then matched the menu and vibe to the space. Now filling the long and lean space at 285 Portage

Avenue with a heavyset bartop and two- and four-seater tables for a capacity of 76, Tipsy Cow came up with a fast- casual lunch menu, and made the space pre- and post- game friendly.

SPOTLIGHT MORfit

“Tere’s two things Winnipeggers like: drinking and

burgers,” says Josh, of Tipsy Cow’s brand. “Put those things together and do them well, and it should work.” Luckily, the owners are equipped with expertise in both

– both whiskey aficionados, and with Josh’s chef sensi- bilities shaped at high-end restaurants like Larter’s at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club, Round Table and Billabong, the pair know how to craft a well-balanced cocktail and impress with burgers bursting with flavour, with an elegant sense of balanced taste and presentation. Tipsy Cow also knows its crowd – offering simplified

portions for lunch breaks, with faster kitchen times, the downtown burger bar has nailed the concept of affordable, quick breakout meals. “People don’t necessarily want to spend 30 dollars for

lunch,” says co-owner, Josh Mesojednik. “(Our lunches) are priced appropriately – from 7 to 12 dollars – and they’re very fast for the kitchen to make.”

For those wanting to spend some time setting an imprint

in their barstools, Tipsy Cow makes it inviting for happy hour guests with its Whiskey Tursdays, slinging its signa- ture whiskey sours out for $5, and its TC Candy, or candied bacon, for $2 less. For game nights or a night out, Tipsy Cow is open late, closing up at 2 a.m. from Tursday to Saturday. As a local restaurant making its debut downtown, Josh

and Will were also hyper-conscious of involving local- made ingredients and suppliers. Find Smak Dab’s mustards, Bothwell Cheese, Capital K

Distillery’s liquors, and most of the local breweries’ ales gracing their menu. Te results have already pleased the area’s residents,

hotel guests and workers: “We’ve had really good feedback on our burgers – and we’ve got regulars who come in three to four times a week already.” Visit Tipsy Cow at 285 Portage Ave. open seven days a

week.

T

here is something about finishing a tough workout that is unbelieveably rewarding. When that workout is led

by an expert, it’s gratifying, and you know it hit all the priorities of health. Tat’s where MORfit comes in to play. They just opened up downtown, and

what they opened up is a thing of beauty. As the Ambassador of Health and Happi- ness I have to remain neutral, but it’s just so hard when I walk into a gym and it’s

beautiful. Having spent the last 15 years training pro athletes at the highest levels, I know my way around a gym. Believe me, this is a nice one. Kettlebells, ropes, bands, turf, sleds, and all of the weights make me super happy. MORfit has that, machines, classes and more. Stuart Klassen is the fearless leader at

MORfit. His dedication to the craft of per- sonal training, and getting fitness results is very apparent when you walk into his gym. Te team he has surrounded himself with all love health and fitness. Tis facility is the place I’d send my friends. Te downtown lo-

cation is their second location and opening location number two speaks to their “fan base” and the fact that they do gyms well. Tey have had success for years, and their business model is client centric. Before I “gush” too much about one busi-

ness, I’ll stop myself. All you need to do is go down and meet the team, you’ll see what all the noise is about. Tey’ve got a lot of options for classes, personal training, and therapy. As a bonus, MORfit is offering the first month at the gym completely free for you to try. Te easiest first step is to go meet them,
