SOUTHWOLD HARBOUR


a working harbour supporting several fishing boats together with several inshore boats. A new dock wall has been completed with the assistance of funding from the EU on the North side of the Harbour entrance replacing the dilapidated structure which had stood since 1908. This facility includes an ice making plant, cold room and fish room for use of local fishermen together with diesel, (both red and white) on the quay. Ten new berths have been created for fishing boats and are available on a first come first served basis.

there are about eighty moorings and/or stages for yachtsmen and other water activity enthusiasts supported by three boat yards which themselves provide local employment and, of course, a Sailing Club.

A visit to the Alfred Corry Lifeboat Museum to see the beautifully restored Sailing Lifeboat is fascinating and instructive showing the bravery of the men who put to sea in all weathers to rescues others; whilst a short step away is the RNLI station where the current inshore lifeboat is kept.
