AT LOCALVETS FOR AN EVENING OF INTERACTIONAND LEARNING

Farriers, both local and from far away gathered at Hook

NortonVets as part of the British Farriers and Blacksmiths continual development programme for farriers,

Aimed at farriers who wish to up-skill and continue learning, it was well attended with over 35 farriers from different counties. Organiser CarlWain who is a farrier said “it’s great to get farriers and vets together discussing lameness and farriery so that we can develop ways of shoeing horses to help avoid lameness and promote soundness.

Vets have to do compulsory CPD (continual professional development) and it’s only fair that farriers do too, it’s

important that both professions keep learning to ensure the best outcome for the horse”

Carl also said “BFBA have been great at embracing CPD and are working together with vets and other professions and associations to offer new learning opportunities to farriers.

CPD whilst being mandatory for vets and other professions has only recently been made mandatory for farriers, it was great to see such a good turnout (standing room only) and on behalf of BFBA and hook norton vets we want to thank them for their support.

22 The equine vets at Hook Norton have a strong

interest in foot care and lameness and work alongside your farrier to optimise your horse’s shoeing and performance in both the short and long term. By building and maintaining good relationships with local farriers, the skills and experience of both can be combined to get the best possible outcome for your horse.

CPD (Continuing Professional Development) has

been mandatory for vets for a very long time, and is essential in maintaining and developing our everyday clinical skills. It was a real privilege to be able to host a farrier’s CPD meeting at Hook Norton recently – it demonstrated very strongly that our local farriers have the same interest in and dedication to clinical standards as we do!
