ENCOURAGING RESULTS FOR REMOUNT

Triple CrownInternational the Equine division of B.P.Nutrition (UK)Ltd undertook the study of 40 horses and ponies, all of which presented symptoms likely to be attributable to hepatic and jointcompromise. In somecases, veterinaryconfirmation of liver malfunction was available afterbiochemical analysis of blood; jointstiffness and arthritic changes were also either suspectedorconfirmed by X-ray. Results were subjectively assessed by owners/handlers of the

animals, with anychange in appearance, temperament, appetite, performance, suppleness and limb flexionbeing noted on a daily basis; the time course of anychanges were recorded. Theanimals used in the studies representedacross section

of the equine population in termsofbreeds, types, sizes and work requirements. They ranged fromthe smallest of native ponies to heavyweighthunters, and included dressage horses, eventers, showjumpers and racehorses in training.

RESULTS

he most rapid improvements were in horses treatedwith Remount1for poor condition, lethargy, lack of bloom and lamanitic conditions, dramatic responses oftenoccur within 48 hours. Animals previously dull, unenthusiastic and listless, showedimproved outlook, increased appetite, and regained interest in life.Animals showing discomfortfromlamanitic symptoms of,hot and sorefeet walked morefreely and comfortably within afew days.Poor and unthrifty animals startedtogain weightand improvedcoatappearancewithinaweek. Oedemas of the legs(“stocking up”) reduced

within days of starting the treatment, and better jointmobilitywas also seen within 7-14 days of some animals. One horse presenting with

head shaking of unknownaetiology which had been partially cured with steroid treatment ceased to head shake altogether within afew days.Asafurther observation, the laminitis that appeared to have been precipitatedbysteroid treatment, gave clear indications of the change in liver enzyme function thatcould be attributed to Remount1and which corresponded with symptomatic improvements in the animal. Numerous single cases have sinceadded

supporttothe encouraging results of the survey, andamultiplicityofsymptoms, previously resistanttotreatmentby conventional chemical means, have responded favourably to the use of Remount. Results appear to be long lasting and to

be sustained over aperiod of manyweeks. Further investigations will continue into the

time course of anyrequired repeattreatment. Theanecdotal evidencehas mountedupand has made an impressivearray, but, nonetheless, the demonstrable proof of efficacyofany treatment giventoahorse lies in the changed performance of the animal beforeand afterwards,as validatedbywinnings in the showring, dressage arena, eventing field and racecourse. All provenbeneficial results have been demonstrated in each case.Anowner remarking“Itwas wonderful to see such a quick recovery”may be very gratifying, but the horse in question being led into the winners enclosureatCatterick is even moreso!
