Convenience For those of you who love your lie-ins like I do, living at uni means that your lectures and the uni facilities are not far away. This allows you to roll out of bed 10 minutes before your lesson and still be on time, whereas those who have to commute will be up nice and early for their 9am lectures. In the words of Tesco: ‘every little helps’, so it is essential to consider the cost of commuting as well as the length of the journey.

Involvement Making friends is an essential part of university, and in my opinion this was easier for those living with or

close to other students. Obviously those who commute still make plenty of friends- there is just more difficulty involved in meeting up with these students outside of lectures. A lot of the social events I attended were often held in university accommodation if not nearby, therefore living around the corner had its benefits over commuting.

Your own space For those of you who are like me and have a family with no regards for privacy, moving away from home allows you to have your own space. At university you have your own bedroom which you can decorate

how you like (within reason) and keep it as messy as you wish. Similarly, for those of you who share with a sibling at home, this is your chance for some space to call your own!

More freedom Something that largely persuaded me to move out… NO NAGGING! University life allows you to do what you like, when you like. Fancy some cold pizza for breakfast? How about a midnight stroll? There is no one there to question your every move or to stop you; you can make all your own choices and plans.
