of bullying behavior is a desire for power and control. “Tis makes bullying different from conflict,” Lindgren said. “Bullies see they are hurting someone and continue that behavior because it provides them with a sense of power and they want to feel in control.” Lindgren said the organization tries to refrain from using the term bully. “Instead we say a student is demonstrating bullying behavior,” she explained. “It puts emphasis on the person first. Bullying is a behavior and behaviors can change.” Lindgren said more than one of every five students are bullied. She said that between 2005 and 2015, bullying decreased from 28 percent to 20.8 percent, according to the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics. Students subjected to bullying behavior are usually shy and meek, as was the case with


Austin Schneiderman. Goldstein said such a personality is like blood in the water to a bully. “Austin was meek and timid, so he was an easy target for anyone who wanted to prey on him,” Goldstein said. “Size has nothing to do with it. Just because you’re bigger doesn’t mean you’re badder.” Lindgren said children react to bullying differently, but most display changes in behavior, eating habits and sleeping habits. Tey have frequent headaches or stomach aches, do not want to go to school and destroy their clothing, electronics and books. 
