ERCOLE L’INVINCIBILE, which features stock and original Mario Bava effects footage.
URING THE PERIOD of late 1963 to early 1964, the activities of Mario Bava went unrecorded. He was not a director who spent his time be-
tween films resting and recharging his creative batter- ies, so there is every reason to believe that he remained active in friendly, unofficial capacities. Of the other Italian features produced during this period, two off- beat additions to the rapidly expiring peplum cycle contain effects scenes suggesting Bava’s hush-hush involvement, and we have surprising confirmation of a day job that Bava performed for a scene ultimately cut from a rather remarkable medieval horror film.
