INDUSTRY NEWS Ponsse to expand its factory A


substantial investment in new production facilities at its factory in Vieremä, Finland,


is being undertaken by Ponsse Plc. The expansion is expected to be completed in Autumn, 2017. In addition to the new facilities, Ponsse will increase the level of automation in its production of harvesters, forwarders and other forest machines. The purpose of this investment is to manufacture products of an even higher level of quality, greatly improve productivity and offer a safer working environment. Work started on 22 June by clearing the land area in Vieremä and construction will begin this September. “This investment secures the quality of our products and production in every situation. We are looking for more productivity and flexibility. Demand for Ponsse machines is high and the future of the forest industry is looking bright in many of our market areas,” explained Juho Nummela, President and CEO of Ponsse.

the past five years, Ponsse has invested a total of 87 million Euros in facilities and machinery. During the next two years, it will invest a further 28-32 million Euros in the development of production. Ponsse is also placing heavy focus on the development of


its functions. “The Ponsse way of doing things remains strong. We are serious about building the world’s best forest machines and the positive Ponsse spirit has spread throughout the network,” stated Juho Nummela.


Ponsse Group employs some Promotions at UPM Biofuels


On 9 August, Sari Mannonen was appointed Vice-President, responsible for UPM Biofuels Strategic Business Unit. She previously worked as Director, Sales and Marketing within UPM Biofuels and has fulfilled that role since 2014, where she was responsible for commercial strategy and product launches in the Biofuels business. Sari has worked for UPM since 2011 in leadership positions and before joining the company she worked for Lindström and Biohit. She will be based in Helsinki and report to Heikki Vappula, Executive Vice-President,


2 Autumn 2016 2 UPM Biorefining.


It has also been announced that Petri Kukkonen became Vice-President, UPM Biofuels Development, as of 1 July. He has been leading UPM Biofuels since 2007 and developed the new UPM Biofuels business with a team of professionals to become a profitable business. In his new role, he will prepare UPM Biofuels for the organisation’s next steps, together with a development team.


He will also be based in Helsinki and will continue reporting to Heikki Vappula.


1,400 people, of whom 650 are working in the Ylä-Savo region at Ponsse’s factory in Vieremä and in service businesses and at the logistics centre in Iisalmi, which serves Ponsse’s entire international service network consisting of 160 service centres.
