The list of “firsts” continued when in May of 1976 the marina opened, a two-storey log building was constructed and they were granted the first Marina Pub License in the province! Having seen the marina and pub come to life, Darcy left the marina to continue with his contract- ing business, while Mike continued to develop his dream.


“I think he decided to build the marina just so he could park his boat in it,” said Mike’s son and current owner, Dean Acton. “The most com- mon question Dad was asked was, ‘What did you do with all of the dirt you took out of the marina?’” He would sarcastically answer, “I dug a hole and buried it!”


Dean grew up at Captain’s Village Marina, and in 1984 took over the operation. “There are three generations working here now, including my Mom and my son,” Dean says proudly. “Boats are in my blood and my family’s blood. So is living the Shuswap lifestyle.”


This Shuswap family, that works hard and plays harder, sold their first Yamaha WaveRunner in 1987. They subsequently provided customers with service and then sales for Yamaha and Volvo, and in 1990 began


a 13-year relationship with Wellcraft. This healthy growth resulted in the development of a 930m2 winter of 1991/92.

Savvy boaters continued to discover the unique beauty of the Shus- wap region and the revitalizing lifestyle it inspired. Dean felt it was important to have a down-to-earth lake access eatery where friends and families could gather. So in 1995, they created the highly popular Finz Bar & Grill. With lake access and boat parking, it was the first of its kind on the lake.


By 1996 they had brought Regal aboard, then added the Tigé, Berk- shire, and Nordic lines in the years that followed, with financing op- tions to help boaters acquire their ideal boat. They’ve also continued to create additional boat storage so that they now have over 10 build- ings with storage for more than 200 boats.


With the influx of new seasonal and fulltime residents, in 2005 it was decided to relocate the RV Park to its current location on the west side of the marina. And over the next three years, a scenic development of 34
