eat dirt, or that it wouldn’t hurt me.
I remember too, eating
strawberries when no grown- ups were looking, out of some- one’s backyard…. Yum…. I never had a word for this
Santa Rosa. CA. ~ [ed-ih-blist] Ever since I was little, I’ve been drawn
to eat foods in the wild. It was natural
to me –and I think
would be to us all, if not for cul- ture, society leading us quite in another direction. My dad used
to tell a story about me, age fi ve or so, coming in from play with mud around my mouth. “Mar- cia Sue!” he exclaimed, “Have you been eating dirt??” “No, Daddy,” I replied, “It doesn’t taste good…” Many decades later, I learned some native peoples eat
that
good soil, rich in nutrients –so perhaps I instinctively knew to
seemingly weird habit of mine, that most everyone around me tolerated at best. I had always longed for a friend that actu- ally would share this passion with me. One day, listening to NPR, a guest told the audience he was an “edible-ist.” AHA! I now knew what to call myself. T at particular word however was not in my dictionary, but “ediblist” was. So, I am an edi- blist. During a period in my life, living in southern Califor- nia, I’d hike into the hills, rocky canyons and caves to do mini vision quests.
Shine delight and spread the maitri, Marcia
