LETTER FROM THE BY PHIL DUBOIS, DRUGSCAN, INC. CHAIRMAN

Spring is in the Air S

pring is my favorite time of the year. Aſter this horrific winter in the mid- Atlantic region, it seems the greens

are greener, the flowers are more beautiful and the birds are singing more cheerfully. I find that the spring season really allows my creative thinking, outlook and atitude to be at its best. Speaking of being at our best, the

DATIA Annual Conference is right around the corner. I am very excited since it is in my home state, and further, that it will be hosted at the beautiful Trump National Doral. I hope you will come and mingle with some of DATIA’s prominent members as they network, learn and grow their business opportuni- ties. The conference is my favorite part about being a DATIA member and this small investment pays great dividends for me, personally, and for my business ventures. Make sure you check out the article, “Visit the Exhibit Hall” on page 14, to see all of the great vendors that will be exhibiting this year and where they are located in the exhibit hall. Marijuana legalization continues to

present problems to employers and society as a whole. I have found that the proponents only talk about the pros of medicinal marijuana; however, they continue to believe that there are no cons. Upon reading an article by the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Traffick- ing Area (RMHIDTA), “Te Legalization of Marijuana in Colorado—Te Impact” Volume 2 Aug 2014, I found there were numerous unintended consequences from the legalization of marijuana. Among the cons are children and adults sent to emergency rooms for unintentionally consuming marijuana edibles, young children selling legally bought marijuana

in elementary school, houses being dam- aged or destroyed by individuals that want a beter high by creating hash oil, to name a few. Te proponents will say it is safe. However, once an individual who has consumed marijuana leaves their house or enters a workplace, roads and workplaces become less safe. I am excited that DATIA will soon be an-

nouncing the Marijuana Education Fund. Tis voluntary fund allows members of DATIA and others to contribute directly to education of employers and other inter- ested individuals about the dangers of legalized marijuana in the workplace and continue to fight for the employer’s right to a safe and drug free workplace. If you have questions in the meantime contact me at pdubois@drugscan.com or Laura Shelton at lshelton@datia.org. We have some great articles for you in

the spring 2015 DATIA focus. You’ll find ar- ticles on blunt talk about marijuana trends and the drug testing industry. We also have articles that will educate you on alcohol, synthetic drugs, prescription drugs, legal is- sues of drug testing, growing your business, state drug testing laws and many articles to grow your industry knowledge. I look forward to seeing you in sunny

Florida to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of DATIA at DATIA’s Annual Conference and wish you the best of luck as you make great connections. ❚

Best Regards,

Phil Dubois DATIA Chairman
