Matt Frieburghaus Untitled Ice, 2014

Single Channel Video and Digital Frame

Uncovering new relationships between sight and sound, Matt Frieburghaus uses software to interpret external information and trans- form it into sound, video, and digital prints. The multilayered works reveal a hidden aesthetic or generate new sensory experi- ences. Information such as color channels, time code, or frequencies, combined with digital processes, create texture and motion using multiple layers of video and sound to form visual and aural compositions. His techniques construct a temporal or spatial compression of natural or urban spaces that is macroscopic

but may suggest the microscopic scale.

Bio Matt Frieburghaus records sensory experi- ences and uses digital processes to explore relationships between sight and sound. His work has exhibited at festivals, galleries, and museums including Boston Cyberarts Gallery, Bronx Calling: The Second AIM Biennial, Everson Museum of Art, Festival Miden, Field Projects, FILE, Garrison Art Center, Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art, Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, and Verge Art NYC. Matt received a BFA in Animation from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and an MFA in Computer Art from Syracuse University. He is Associate Professor of Digital Media at Marist College.
